Think About What Is Music To You
What is Music?
Well, for starters Webster’s defines it as follows:
: sounds that are sung by voices or played on musical instruments
: written or printed symbols showing how music should be played or sung
: the art or skill of creating or performing music
We definitely aren't going to argue against the very definition of the word, but we would love to say that music is definitely all of those things that Webster’s describes.
Music is surely a sound but it's a little more than just any sound. It's a pleasant sound that will cause someone to have positive reactions to it. When you hear a good sound it can make your whole day better. When you hear a bad or unpleasant sound you of course are going to have an opposite reaction to what would have happened if the sound had been good. The other thing about sounds is that what sounds good to one person can actually sound bad to another. This isn't a good or bad thing as it is just a matter of what makes everyone feel good about or within themselves.
What is music is truly a great question that everyone could ask themselves from time to time. Over time, the way people interpret or even express themselves musically will tend to change. That is why at certain stages of ones life they can feel one way about music very strongly and then at another point in their lives they can feel totally different very strongly as well. This is likely because of the art or skill of creating and/or performing music for each individual changes just as their stages of life and experiences teach them new things about their existence. Trying to make sense of why the changes occur can be a useless thing to do because most times the process happens gradually and the person doesn't even realize just how different they have become over time.
Sometimes it takes for someone observing the art of a painter to say something that they see that the painter didn't intentionally mean for them to see or feel something they hadn't expected for them to feel. At those times that's when the art and skill of the artist goes under analysis by the artist themselves to see how much they have changed. It's not easy for a painter to always be able to pinpoint a reason for their change, but acknowledging it is definitely very important for them and it helps them develop and grow even more as they learn new ways to express themselves in their art.
What we want to say in the end of this is that this question in this article can have no right or wrong answer as everyone will see things very differently. Just as two observers of a singer may not like every aspect of the performance it doesn't make either of them right or wrong.
